The Infant Formula Program provides infant formula to birthing parents living with HIV in order to prevent HIV transmission via chest/breastfeeding. Infant formula is provided for infants from birth to one year of age and in the care of the birthing parent living with HIV. The program is funded by Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care.
If you have a patient in your care living with HIV who becomes pregnant, you can refer them to the Manitoba HIV Program Infant Formula Program using the Infant Formula Program Referral Form.
More about the Infant Formula Program:
- A prescription for the formula is issued
- The patient is responsible for contacting the pharmacy in advance each month to request their formula refill
- The patient picks up formula directly from the pharmacy (not from store shelves/aisles )
- The patient is not involved in the payment process
- Enfamil A+ with ARA & DHA liquid concentrate is provided unless otherwise medically indicated or the patient prefers a different formula
- 4 cases per month of liquid concentrate formula is typically provided
If the infant does not tolerate the formula or if more formula is required, contact the MB HIV Program at 1-866-449-0165.
